The day begins with a short drive along the Mediterranean coast to Caesarea Maritima, Herod’s magnificent harbor city, to view the Roman ruins there. We continue to Mount Carmel where Elijah fought the prophets of Baal, and Megiddo, the ancient Tel in the Jezreel Valley where we will see the many layers of Biblical history. Continue to the Sea of Galilee where we will enjoy sailing for an hour in a wooden boat modeled after an ancient fishing boat (depending on weather conditions). Thursday February 25, 2021 | Galilee

Begin the day at Tel Dan and walk through the nature reserve to the headwaters of the Jordan. Visit the ruins, including the high place built by Jeroboam, son of Nebat. Drive to Banias Nature Reserve (Caesarea Philippi), located at the southwestern base of Mount Hermon. This Roman city is known for its shrine to the Greek god Pan. It was in this area that Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do men say that I am?” and Peter was the one to confess Jesus as Messiah. Then, we drive to the Mount of Beatitudes, the site of the Sermon on the Mount. Next, visit Tabgha and the Church of St. Peter’s Primacy, which commemorates Peter’s commission by Christ to “feed My sheep.” Continue to Capernaum, the town Jesus made His home base during His time in Galilee. Finish the day at Yigal Alon Museum to see the remains of a fishing boat from Jesus’ day. Return to our kibbutz, El Mul Golan, Shaar Hagolan for dinner and overnight.

Friday February 26, 2021 | Galilee

Drive to Magdala, the home of Mary Magdalene, where an early Jewish synagogue has been found containing beautifully colored frescoes. Continue to Arbel Cliff, with its nature caves that provided hiding places for the Jewish rebellions against Herod and Rome. Enjoy a breathtaking view of the Galilee region. Next, travel to Sepphoris, the largest city of the region during the time of Christ which likely provided employment for Nazareth villages. Arrive in Nazareth to visit the Church of the Annunciations, Mary’s Spring, and the Nazareth Village - a recreation of the town of Nazareth during the time of Jesus. Late afternoon, we will stop at the Mount of Precipice overlooking Nazareth and then return for dinner and overnight at El Mul Golan, Shaar Hagolan as the Sabbath begins.

Saturday February 27, 2021 | Dead Sea

This morning, we will travel south through the Jordan River Valley. Our fist stop is the ruins of Beth Shean, an ancient Roman city of the Decapolis near Mount Gilboa where the victorious Philistines nailed the bodies of Saul and his sons to the city walls. Continue south past Jericho to the site of Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. We will check into Hod Hamidbar Hotel Dead Sea before enjoying the hotel spa and swim in the medicinal, salty waters of the Dead Sea - the lowest place on the face of the earth.

Sunday February 28, 2021 | Dead sea to Jerusalem

This morning, you will have a short time to enjoy the Dead Sea hotel and spa. Mid-morning, we will ascend to Masada, a Herodian fortress and last hold out for the Jewish rebels against Rome in the years 73 and 74 AD. We continue to the oasis of Ein Gedi where David fled from King Saul and cut off part of his robe in a cave. Here some may choose to hike over the rocks to the waterfall at Ein Gedi Nature Reserve or relax in the park and watch the hyraxes and ibex before traveling through the Judean wilderness past the Good Samaritan Inn. Continue to view the City of Gold from Mount Scopus before checking into the Gloria Hotel in Jerusalem.
